Meet the Director
I’m delighted to introduce myself — my name is Lisa Wheeldon. I grew up in the beautiful Skagit Valley and have spent the past twenty‑five years working with children from all over the world. From the time I was young, I knew I wanted to work with children, and that passion led me to earn my degree in Early Childhood Education. I began my career as a program supervisor for KinderCare Learning Centers, and soon after felt called to serve children abroad as an international volunteer.
For seven years, I worked in a variety of cultures and communities, including more than a year in a Bolivian orphanage caring for 120 wonderful girls, with a special focus on infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Living in a developing country meant that First Aid wasn’t just something I learned — it was something I used frequently. I also spent time supporting children in inner‑city communities such as Harlem, Bridgeport, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, as well as working with children in Australia and Canada. One of my most meaningful teaching experiences was helping a group of students who were more than half a year behind not only catch up within six months, but exceed state standards.
Although I cherished my years as a volunteer, my heart eventually led me back home to the Skagit Valley. In 2014, I opened Little Sprouts Preschool, and since then I’ve had the joy of welcoming more than 300 children through my doors. I’m incredibly proud of this little school — it’s a place where children are truly able to grow, learn, and flourish.
My husband and I love living in the Skagit Valley, and we adore our young son, who brings us endless joy. We spend much of our time outdoors, hiking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter, exploring the many trails our area offers. I also enjoy baking, especially on cozy weekends at home. I’m blessed to have my mother and extended family nearby, and my husband and I attend church in La Conner — a town we both love. When I get the chance to travel, I enjoy visiting my sister in Los Angeles and spending time at Disneyland. Lastly, I absolutely love my two little kitties, Fiona and KitKat.
